Meet the Heart Behind
The Pocket Librarian
Hi, my name is Kerri. I’m an English teacher turned school librarian, lifelong book lover, and proud mom of an 8-year-old teenager. This journey started in a quiet corner of a library long before I ever dreamed of becoming a teacher or launching a mobile literacy program.
As a child, I spent countless afternoons in the local library waiting for my older sibling to pick me up after school. Those hours weren’t just a way to pass the time—they were pure magic. The library became my second home, a place where I felt completely safe, completely me. I’d roam the aisles like I owned the place, get help with my homework, sit in on storytime, and lose myself in book after book. It’s where I first learned that books could be both a refuge and a launchpad for the imagination.
As a teacher, I was surprised to discover how many students didn’t enjoy reading. That realization led me to earn my Master’s in Library and Information Science through a scholarship with Syracuse University. Becoming a librarian allowed me to share the magic of reading in new and meaningful ways.
Now, years later, as a mom myself, I’m thinking even more deeply about how we nurture curiosity, empathy, and joy in our children. That’s why I created The Pocket Librarian: a traveling library service designed to bring that sense of wonder, safety, and excitement directly to kids—especially those in small schools and homeschool communities where access to a full-time librarian or library space might not exist.
Through engaging storytimes, book lending, literacy challenges, creative workshops, and more, I want every child to feel what I felt in those after-school hours: at home, seen, and full of possibility.
Because at The Pocket Librarian, our mission is simple but powerful:
To be the place where every child finds their story.
My mission is to spark a lifelong love of reading through joyful, hands-on literacy experiences that nurture curiosity, creativity, and confidence.
“A good book can unlock a child’s imagination—and a great library program makes sure they find it.”
