Creative Poetry & Art Publishing Class
In this 4-week Creative Poetry & Art Publishing Class, students explore various poetry forms and visual storytelling while creating original poems and artwork. Guided through writing, feedback, illustration, and book design, students collaborate on a professionally published book showcasing their work. The course concludes with a celebratory poetry showcase.

Creative Writing & Picture Book Publishing Class
Over 8 weeks, students will write and illustrate their very own picture book! Through fun, hands-on sessions, they’ll learn storytelling, character development, and illustration techniques—culminating in a professionally published book and a final celebration to share their creative work.

Week 1: Introduction to Poetry & Creative Expression
Exploring different poetry styles (haiku, free verse, acrostic, etc.)

In this exciting 2-month course, students will write, illustrate, and publish their very own picture book! They’ll learn the fundamentals of storytelling, character creation, and illustration techniques while working toward a professionally printed book.
Each session includes engaging lessons, hands-on activities, and creative collaboration with peers. The course ends with a celebratory showcase and the option to purchase published copies of their book!
Week 1: Introduction to Storytelling & Picture Books
Students explore what makes a great picture book, from story structure to visual storytelling, and begin brainstorming their own ideas.
Week 2: Developing Characters & Story Structure
We dive into building compelling characters and crafting a beginning, middle, and end that brings stories to life.
Week 3: Writing the First Draft
Writers begin drafting their stories, focusing on voice, pacing, and turning ideas into engaging narratives.
Week 4: Editing & Revising for Clarity
Students learn revision techniques and work with peers and instructors to strengthen their drafts.
Week 5: Introduction to Picture Book Illustration
We explore how images can enhance stories, studying examples and planning illustrations for each page.
Week 6: Creating & Refining Artwork
Students create original artwork for their stories using a range of materials, with guided feedback and tips.
Week 7: Formatting for Publishing
We bring words and illustrations together in layout form, learning the basics of book formatting and print prep.
Week 8: Final Edits, Celebration & Publishing Prep
The class wraps up with final revisions, book submission, and a celebratory showcase to honor everyone’s creativity!
